Two Books You Should Preorder Now and Read This Year
That have nothing to do with fertility or pregnancy!
Hi! Thank you for all the messages and love regarding my post from last week, I’m feeling very supported and hopeful.
We heard the heartbeat for the first time yesterday, which is the most beautiful sound! I’ll be back next Wednesday with a regular post of Good Egg 🥰
I work in publishing as a book designer at Marine Corps University Press and am pursuing a Publishing Master of Professional Studies degree with George Washington University. So, I have a NetGalley account! I recently began requesting books and submitting feedback, and it’s been a great way to get me to read more. Here are two books I’ve been reading through NetGalley and think you should check out. And consider preordering them!1 It helps publishers know which books to boost in marketing and helps authors immensely!
Fun fact: These two authors and I all shared the same wedding photographer, Katelyn James: Kate, Molly, Me. HMMMM. Coincidence?! Does this foretell my eventual memoir?
One in a Millennial: On Friendship, Feelings, Fangirls, and Fitting In
by Kate Kennedy (Coming January 23, 2024)
I listen to and love Kate’s podcast Be There In Five, so when I heard she was writing a book, I knew I’d be reading it no matter what it was about. WELP, it’s about me. And by me, I mean millennial women who grew up poring over the American Girl Doll catalog and learning how to socialize through AOL Instant Messenger. It’s divided into chapters about the 90s, 2000s, and today. Sample chapter title from the 2000s: “Are We Going Out? Or Out-Out?” You get it. Kate’s book made me feel the way the Barbie movie did—confident in my identity with this generation, and a kinship with others who experienced growing up in the 90s and 2000s. (If any members of my book club are reading this, just know that I’ll be suggesting this book!)
If I Don't Laugh, I’ll Cry: How Death, Debt, and Comedy Led to a Life of Faith, Farming, and Forgetting What I Came Into This Room For…
by Molly Stillman (Coming March 26, 2024)
Molly has an amazing story, and it starts with her mother’s amazing story. Her mom Lynda was a Vietnam War nurse and fought for women veterans’ rights after coming home. Her mom has a memoir about this time, but Molly spends a good chapter sharing this story, and about her mother’s illness and death when Molly was still young. I won’t spoil the rest of Molly’s story, but I didn’t want to put this book down until I finished it. She shares a lot about her Christian faith but isn’t proselytizing. I’m becoming a huge fan of real memoirs, not ones from reality TV stars, but real people who have a story to tell. Molly’s is worth the read!2
I prefer to preorder straight from the publisher or Bookshop.org; Amazon is my last resort but follow your heart and do what works for you!
I tried to abbreviate the title for this preorder button but I couldn’t fit “Preorder IIDLIC: HDDACLTALOFFAFWICITRF Here!”
