Welcome back, Eggies!1 Time is flying. I’m just about 17 weeks pregnant, and getting already really anxious about some upcoming tests and my anatomy scan, which is when I lost my first pregnancy and had to give birth over 4 days in the hospital. Just all sorts of triggering times coming up.
I’m just going to share a list of the things that are soothing to me right now, that probably shouldn’t include watching Midsommar (which is a fantastic movie) or reading George W. Bush’s daily briefing from September 12, 2001, which is a real thing I did recently. I hope you can give me your suggestions too! Just leave a comment or reply to this email. 🤗
Crochet
I’ve been crocheting for almost two years2 now, and came to it by way of convincing Instagram ads for The Woobles. Let me tell you those ads WORKED on me. My first kit was Pierre the Penguin, it’s the one they suggest you start with before getting more advanced kits. It comes with everything you need, plus step-by-step video tutorials for right- and left-handed (🙋🏼♀️) crocheters! This is how I learned to crochet, and now I can pretty much read a pattern and make something from it. I would love to do a deep dive on crochet sometime (is that something you would be interested in?), but if you’re crochet-curious or just starting out, get a Woobles kit and just do it. I had to restart so many times, but now I can just make toys for my son or nieces and nephews, or a hat for myself, which is something I never thought I would be able to do. It’s also something soothing and repetitive I can do with my hands instead of mindlessly scrolling on my phone. I can do it while listening to a podcast or audiobook, or watching TV. And when you complete a project, you have something tangible that you made with your own hands, a hook, and some yarn. I love it.
Not for nothing, here is a lil referral code for $5 off your first order, and then I get $5 off an order as well! Be an enabler to my crochet/Woobles addition.
Movies and TV
I read recently that cozy shows/movies are different from a comfort watch, which for me would be 30 Rock, Parks & Rec, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, or 21 Jump Street. Broadchurch is NOT cozy (omg). But Midsomer Murders IS cozy.
Vulture recently wrote about the best cozy movies, and I have to agree with most of them, especially Paddington and Paddington 2. Give me your cozy movies!!
For TV shows, I like anything that involves baking, crafts, restoring old toys, that sort of thing. One deep cut from a few years ago is The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell on Netflix, where she makes elaborate baking and craft creations alongside puppets, and everything is Halloween or horror-themed…? Trust me, it’s so cozy, especially when she narrates what she’s doing even if it’s making peppermint bark horns or wolf-claw donuts. I need to rewatch it. I’m sad there was only one season of it!
Couch Blankies
If you know me and my family, you know that a couch needs a blankie. Couch Blankies are comfy and soft and have to be big enough to cover your feet if you’re lying down. They can be afghans with pictures on them and fringe all the way around, or a sherpa blanket (but these can get matted and less cozy over time). Right now the one on our living room couch is this one from Target, and it’s Queen-sized so it’s HUGE. This is a good thing. It means Henry can be covered with the blanket as well without encroaching on what I am legally entitled to when I’m sitting on a couch.
My favorite couch blankie is this one from Spoonful of Comfort, which I got in a care package from my sister-in-law. It’s big and stretchy and warm, but not too heavy. Couch blankies are a very nuanced thing, thank you for your understanding.
I don’t know if you guys are aware of this but YOU CAN SEND ME BIRD FACTS AND MEMES. Thank you to a reader named “Becca” for sending me this one! This sent me on an investigative journey with only a photo, an exact location, and a date to go on.

Okay, it was the first hit. Case closed.
This lovely fella is a Tawny Frogmouth, which is often mistaken for an owl but there is no close relation to the species. Huh!
That’s all for this week on Good Egg, please leave me your cozy recs and have a great week. 🫶🏼
Testing out some nicknames for my readers, other options include Chickadees or Ducklings. ChatGPT gave me horrible ideas such as “Fertility Flyers,” “Peri-hatch Pals” (?!), or “Preggo Plumage,” which doesn’t even make SENSE.
I ordered my first Woobles kit on 3/14/22!
Love the cozy update this week. ☺️ thinking about you and sending all good vibes as you’re preparing for upcoming tests. 💕💕💕
